Andrew Coggins

Andrew Coggins came to the Tri-Cities area from Houston, Texas in the fall of 2009.  He joined Fusion FC as an Academy Coach in the Fall of 2010.

The majority of Coggins’ prep experience came while residing in Charleston, South Carolina. He played for the Charlestowne Lightning Club Team which advanced to the Region III State Tournament before being eliminated with a 3-1 record when the tie breaker went to North Texas.

Coggins twice represented South Carolina on the State ODP Team and was selected for the Region III Pool in 1986.

In the South Carolina High School League, Coggins played for Middleton High School who won the State Championship his freshman, sophomore, and senior seasons and was runner-up his junior season.  As a senior Coggins was selected as the South Carolina High School Player of the Year after setting the state career record for goals at 127 in four seasons of play.

Coggins chose to attend the University of South Carolina Honors College over Virginia, Notre Dame, The College of Charleston, and the United States Military Academy at West Point.  While at South Carolina, Coggins competed in three NCAA tournaments reaching the Final Four, Final Eight, and Sweet Sixteen.  During Coggins’ career the Gamecocks never fell out of the Division I Top 25 and they were ranked number one at two different points in his career.  Coggins led the Gamecocks in scoring each of his final two years and was selected as the Team Captain and MVP his senior year.   He also was selected to play in the 1992 USAir Indoor Soccer Showcase.

After college, Coggins went on to play one season for the Columbia Spirit and two seasons for the Charleston Battery in the USISL (United States Interregional Soccer League) which later transitioned into the MLS, USL, and other associated sub-leagues.  During both seasons, The Battery advanced to the playoffs and in 1995 they made a run to the championship game where they were defeated by the Minnesota Thunder.

As a coach, Coggins holds a USSF National D License.  He has coached or assisted from the U16 Level down and has been retained by numerous high level youth players for personal training sessions.  Coggins strongly believes in the necessity to establish solid technical skills at a young age and to allow Academy Level Players to play freely for large portions of team practice sessions.  He has received coaching and training experience from such notable figures as Steve Heighway, Mark Berson, Tim Hankinson, Mike Anheuser, Trevor Adair, Doug Allison, and Dave Golan.

Coggins currently resides in Colonial Heights with his wife (Tory) and three children (Brooke, Brantley, Michael).
